The Wood Chop is named after the pattern of movement created when chopping wood with an axe. The flexion/rotation pattern is used in many sports:

  • Tennis Forehand
  • Playing Hockey
  • Swinging a Golf Club
The Wood Chop explained:
  • Use the wood chop with a fairly stable pelvis.
  • Use a cable machine.
  • If you are rotating right, first grab the handle with your right hand. Then place your left hand on top of the right hand.
  • Keep transverse muscles pulled in

  • Accelerate movement diagonally down and rotate the trunk.

  • End movement when your hands reach slightly ourside your hips. Choose a weight that allows you to do 12 repititions.
