Many studies have shown that omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil may reduce the risk of coronary artery disease in men.  However, the effects in women were unknown.  A study by Dr. Ken Stark and colleagues at the University of Guelph, Canada, found that giving post-menopausal women eight fish-oil capsules per day for twenty-eight days lowered triglyceride concentrations in the bloodstream.  HDL levels also improved.  Hence, if post-menopausal women take fish oil supplements, this study suggests their risk for heart disease will go down substantially.
